Program Overview

According to the University of Southern California:

The Master of Public Health online program offered by the University of Southern California is an innovative degree program designed to educate emerging and current professionals in the field of public health. With courses designed and taught by world-class faculty, students receive the same rigorous academic preparation and degree as students enrolled in the on-campus MPH program. Delivered through a customized online learning platform and state of-the-art technology, content can be accessed 24/7 from anywhere with an Internet connection. In addition, students engage with classmates and faculty in regular, live online sessions and virtual office hours. Students also meet online with classmates for study sessions, group projects and sometimes just to socialize. Just like the on-campus program, the online MPH program offers students a range of practicum opportunities where they integrate and enhance what they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it in the field.

The online MPH program offers five concentrations:

  • Biostatistics & Epidemiology: Engage in high-level research and analysis to improve public health.
  • Health Education & Promotion: Improve public health through education.
  • Global Health Leadership: Change the world through global health leadership.
  • Geohealth: Learn spatial methods to improve public health.
  • Health Services and Policy: Improve the quality of health at the local, state and federal Levels.

Admission requirements

According to the University of Southern California, to be eligible for admission to the Master of Public Health program, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Three (3) academic or professional letters of recommendation: All letters must be less than a year old and on department letterhead. At least one letter must be academic.
  • A statement of purpose of approximately 2-3 pages addressing the following questions: Why are you interested in pursuing the MPH degree? How will an MPH degree affect or enhance your career aspirations and goals?
  • Current professional resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score within five years of anticipated start date. Note: Applicants may substitute MCAT scores less than three years old or GMAT scores less than five years old, for GRE scores.
  • Applicants with a medical degree from an accredited (LCME) medical school, foreign medical school graduates who have passed all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), and those with a postgraduate degree in another health profession or health-related profession may request an exemption of the GRE requirement.
  • Additional materials may be required for international applicants.
