Program Overview

According to Utica College:

The progressive curriculum of the online Master of Science in Health Care Administration is focused on accelerating students’ learning through applied study of actual cases, relevant projects, lively discussion, and interactive learning forums. Students study the use of new technologies to manage and improve operations, ethics and legal issues in the field, and a range of issues related to gerontology, including long-term care policies and cultural attitudes toward the elderly. Graduates of the online Health Care Administration degree will have the skills, competencies, and confidence to pursue management and leadership positions within the field of health care administration.

Concentrations

The program offers three specializations covering the specific administrative needs of various types of health care organizations:

  • Acute Care: Students explore financial management, the development and implementation of IT systems, and leadership practices for administrators of hospitals and other acute care facilities.
  • Service Organizations: Coursework covers tools, concepts, and methods of organizational development and organizational leadership for students interested in working for government, corporate, insurance, or research companies and agencies in the health care field.
  • Long Term Care: This emphasis focuses on effective management practices related to planning, staffing, quality improvement, and other administrative areas, as well as tools and principles of financial management.

Admission requirements

According to Utica College, to be eligible for admission to the Master of Health Administration program, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • GPA of 3.0
  • Work experience recommended, but not required
  • Transcript (all entering students must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Personal statement
  • Three letters of recommendation
